#BlackOnCampus: Margarette Leandre

Margarette Leandre
Grenfell Campus, Memorial University of Newfoundland

Being a black student leader leader on campus means that I am a proud voice for the many black students who experience racism, who are stereotyped as being “dumb” or “not god enough” because of the colour of their skin. I don’t have it all figured out but what I do know is that I want to stand for something that’s meaningful.

Margarette is an international student from the Caribbean. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in General Science with a minor in French at the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland. Her involvement with student life on her campus includes being an RA, member of the International Students’ Caucus and president of the Rotaract Club. She describes herself as being helpful, determined and charismatic.
